Mini 7 2006 - Tristens Novice Season
After two years of Sprinting a 1380cc Mini, Tristen decided to move upto circuit racing following in the footsteps of his father who had raced Formula Ford and Historic F3. Choosing Mini 7's was mainly thanks to Mini Miglia racer Sarah Munns and her family but was also due to the huge excitement of watching Mini 7 racing!
This gallery contains the various images of Tristens novice season in the newly formed S class Mini 7 Championship. Using a mildly tuned 1293cc engine and standard gearbox as the main ingredients, it allowed a more hassle free introduction to circuit racing, whilst still being able to mix it with the midfield pack. Tristen ended 2006 as the clubs first S Class Champion and narrowly missed out on winning the Novice Championship. The first year of circuit racing had proved enormous fun and without any major incidents was very reasuring for 2007!
Mini 7 2007 - Toms Novice Season
The winter break of 2006/07 was to prove very busy as Tristen was studying for his final year at Loughborough University and Tom was negotiating the purchase of Geoff Letts Mini 7. The car had been developed by Geoff over many seasons and had just finished 3rd in the championship, so he knew this was a great place for him to begin his circuit racing career.
This gallery contains images of Toms Novice Mini 7 season and Tristens return to the MIni 7 S Class Championship. Tristen continued 2007 where he had left off in 2006 mixing it with the midfield, scoring a best finish of 10th and ending the season as runner up in the S Class narrowly losing out to Nathan Burge. Tom had a very enjoyable first season and showed great improvement with every outing in his car. His results were slightly hampered by a few techincal issues but ultimately he came away with a best finish of 10th and was crowned 2007 Novice Champion. 2008 was looking promising for a strong showing from both drivers in the Bailey Knight Racing Team.
Mini 7 - 2008
The winter break proved to again be very busy for both Tom and Tristen. Toms Mini 7 had undergone a full repsray and replacement of nearly all exterior parts. Upon approaching the beginning of the season Tom and his wife had however completed the purchase of a new house, limiting his funds for racing in 2008. Toms only race in 2008 saw him progress from 15th upto 8th in the race in a fantastic 7 way battle. His progress however ended prematurely when he was involved in a incident forcing him to retire three laps before the end.
Tristen on the other hand was trying to get his design career up and running, and had also decided to upgrade his car from S class spec to full Mini 7 specification. As opposed to simply changing the power unit from 1293cc to the fully modified 1000cc, the decision was made to improve all aspects of the cars construction. Due to the time taken to rebuild Tristens Mini 7 he stepped into his brothers redundant car for the 8th round at Brands Hatch enabling him to score his best ever qualifying and finish position.
Unfortunately Tom will not be racing in 2009 due to his financial commitments with his new house, but he endevours to return to racing in 2010. He will however be actively involved in the Bailey Knight Racing team and will attend all race meetings.
Tristen is continuing the improvement of his Mini 7 and is currently finalising construction for a full assault on the 2009 championship.
